Samantha “SAMMAY” Dizon’s silbihan is a multimedia dance theatre piece that seeks to reflect on personal experiences of first-generation Pilipina-American daughters and their migrant mothers from the womb to present day. This week-long curation includes a writing workshop series led by three uniquely pinay storytellers, a community open mic centered on the theme of "silbihan," and will culminate in SAMMAY's performance work of silbihan - all leading up to Mother's Day 2017. SAMMAY's piece investigates the (dis)connections between mothers and daughters of the diaspora through the lens of religion versus spirituality – centered on the daughters’ discovery of the babaylan.
