USAAF 2026 Event - details TBD!
“WHITE POWER: A Comedy” is a one-person show written & performed by Thao P. Nguyen. The full-length play is an autoethnographic exploration of the pain and complexity of sharing contested territory. The show begins by contextualizing the lands in question – Vietnam and the over 800,000 tons of landmines left by the US military; and North America and the myth of the American Dream in the context of imperial, settler colonial histories. Like virtually all ethnographic art, the power of the piece lies in its specificity, in the details excavated from the lived experience of the writer/performer. Through comic storytelling, the show weaves narratives of the mishaps of growing up otherly – Vietnamese in a White world, Buddhist in a Christian world, queer in a straight world. The show navigates the complexities of common ground, public places, and shared spaces – like the schoolyard, public bathrooms, mom-and-pop restaurants, and neighborhood parks.
