Documenting Community Life and Art Work

THIS WORKSHOP HAS BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

Presented in partnership with Kearny Street Workshop and Asian Pacific Islander Cultural Center, this workshop addresses two distinct needs: a) how artists can best document their work through still photography and video and b) how artists and community members can document everyday life in our communities. Both subjects will be explored by showing examples of work as well as demonstrations of techniques. Workshop participants are encouraged to ask questions and share their experience in these fields.

Facilitated by community photographer, Bob Hsiang and documentary filmmaker, Eddie Wong.

ABOUT THE FACILITATORS

Bob Hsiang has been servicing the art community for many years. Originally trained at the de Young Museum, he has helped many artists create digital reproductions of their work for reproduction or websites using studio lighting and various cameras using high resolution.

Eddie Wong is a longtime activist in the Asian Pacific American community. He directed documentary films Wong Sinsaang, Pieces of a Dream, and Chinatown Two-Step and co-directed Something’s Rotten in Little Tokyo with Duane Kubo. He was one of the co-founders of Visual Communications, the nation’s first non-profit Asian American media production company and later served as Executive Director of NAATA/Center for Asian American Media, Executive Director of the Angel Island Immigration Station Foundation, and as a Guest Curator for the Smithsonian Institution’s Asian Pacific American Center’s “A Day in the Life of Asian Pacific America,” an online photo and video exhibition. He is currently the editor/publisher of East Wind Ezine, an online publication about the politics and culture of Asian Pacific Americans.
