Cinematic SF @ Bayview Opera House on May 11 is one of a series of special presentations of APICC’s Cinematic SF film program. Showcasing the works of local filmmakers R.J. Lozada, Abhi Singh, Kevin Wong, and Jimmy Zhang from May 10-May 26, 2017, each screening will be held in a San Francisco community venue, with different performances and guest speakers.
The Asian Pacific Islander Cultural Center (APICC) brings the new local film project CINEMATIC SF to the Bayview/Hunters Point district, highlighting the experiences of two young people in San Francisco. “The Shoes I Walk In” is directed by filmmaker Jimmy Zhang, following high school senior Marjari from Bayview/Hunters Point as well as Mission youth, Alison. Both girls live in San Francisco homes purchased by their grandmothers years ago, while facing challenges at school and at home. The film brings to light the stories of native San Francisco youth and families who struggle to sustain themselves in San Francisco and stay connected to their ancestors.
Cinematic SF @ Bayview Opera House will be preceded by additional local shorts produced by Bay Area Video Coalition’s media students. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with the filmmakers and representatives from Anti-Eviction Mapping Project about the need for documentation of data and stories concerning displacement and disappearing communities from San Francisco.
