Cinematic SF @ Bayanihan Community Center on May 26 is one of a series of special presentations of APICC’s Cinematic SF film program. Showcasing the works of local filmmakers R.J. Lozada, Abhi Singh, Kevin Wong, and Jimmy Zhang from May 10-May 26, 2017, each screening will be held in a San Francisco community venue, with different performances and guest speakers.
The Asian Pacific Islander Cultural Center (APICC) brings the new local film project CINEMATIC SF to San Francisco’s SoMa Pilipinas Filipino Heritage District to celebrate the value of a Filipino community space. Filmmaker R.J. Lozada presents his short film “A Space on Sixth and Mission” to illustrate the daily happenings of Bayanihan Community Center, located in the heart of the Filipino community of the South of Market district. With clinical services, dance rehearsal spaces, veteran celebrations, and more the film captures just a snippet of various groups who use and benefit from the space. While other works of Cinematic SF illuminate of the fears of SF residents as they may be priced out, “A Space on Sixth and Mission” demonstrates the diversity and absolute value of affordable and open community spaces.
Cinematic SF @ Bayanihan Community Center will feature the local films of Cinematic SF. Preceded by additional local shorts produced by Bay Area Video Coalition’s media students.
*Proceeds from this screening will go to support Filipino specialty bookstore Arkipelago Books, which is housed in Bayanihan Community Center.
** Refreshments will be provided
